On behalf of our nearly 800 members, the Robins Regional Chamber Board of Directors, we sent a letter to our state senators seeking their support for House Bill 61 (HB 61). Tax policy currently gives an unfair advantage to many out-of-state online retailers because they are not required to remit sales taxes to the state of Georgia. These out-of-state retailers are able to charge customers lower prices and do not bear the additional reporting burdens of their in-state competitors. HB 61 would require out-of-state online retailers to provide the state with tax information on purchasers and seeks to lessen the competitive disadvantage facing in-state businesses. Furthermore, this legislation has the potential to significantly increase collectible tax revenue by decreasing the amount of unreported sales tax that is, by law, owed to the state. (The state of Georgia loses over $200 million each year in unreported sales tax.)

YOU CAN HELP

We believe a YES vote on HB61 is a vote for business in Georgia. As champions for business, we are counting on you to help level the playing field for small businesses in Georgia. This legislation has already passed the House but needs our support to get it through the Senate! Please contact your state senators urging them to vote YES on this important legislation, and thank your representatives for their support on this bill.
