2016 Leadership Robins Region Class announced the kick-off of our Class Project Wednesday, June 22 at 10:30 am with a Ground Breaking for a new student greenhouse and outdoor classroom at Westside Elementary School.

Westside Elementary has instituted a school-wide STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) initiative with their aeroponic tower program.  Each year, students work together throughout the growing seasons to produce fruits and vegetables.  For this program to become more effective for student education, the school identified the need for an outdoor classroom and a greenhouse that will allow the aeroponic towers to be functional year-round.

But Westside needs your help to make this happen!  The 2016 LRR Class needs business and community leaders to become partners in their efforts.  Monetary and/or material donations of any amount will help us reach our goals. We hope that you will consider partnering with us to provide the students of Westside Elementary School the tools and support they need as they endeavor to have their school become S.T.E.M. certified!

Goal One: Frame/pour a concrete slab ($5,000) – Completed!
This will provide a solid foundation and provide drainage for the greenhouse

Goal Two: Purchase a professional grade greenhouse ($25,000) – Completed!
The greenhouse will house the school’s 15 aeroponic towers, allowing them to grow crops year-round. The school currently harvests fruits and vegetables for families of the school and donates to the local food pantries.

Goal Three: Materials and supplies to construct outdoor classroom ($20,000) – Completed!
The classroom will be adjacent to the greenhouse and give all students a natural learning environment, as well as allow for integrated curriculum to further their S.T.E.M. education.
