MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
I just wanted to take a moment today, in the middle of a pandemic, a recession, an uncertain political environment, planning, the holidays, and all the other things you’re doing, to just say thank you. Don’t get excited, I’m not going anywhere. 😂 Six years ago today, I walked through the front door of 1228 Watson Boulevard to lead a new chapter for our organization. In the weeks and months that followed I had the great privilege to meet so many of you who shared openly and freely about your experience with the Chamber – the good and the not-so-good.
This feedback was the foundation for a plan that we embarked on to better meet the needs of our members whether they ever darkened our door or not. See – what I learned was that whether it was perception or reality, people felt like the Chamber only provided value if you showed up to stuff. We were what I’d call a 3 P Chamber known for parades, plaques, and putting on programs. What we needed to be was a 3 C Chamber. Once you read these they will sound familiar because we’ve not only been talking about them for quite a while now, we’ve been living them.
The mission of the Robins Regional Chamber is to be the:
- catalyst for business growth
- convener of leaders and influencers who get things done and a
- champion for a stronger community
This transition was not only a very strategic and intentional evolution, it was also very delicate. There is an inherent risk when you start changing things, but we knew it needed to be done. I am forever grateful for the amazing staff and board here at the Chamber for taking a chance on me and my big ideas, for community partners who answer the call and show up when they’re needed, and for incredible member businesses, and organizations who keep investing in our future through your membership, sponsorship and participation. You are not only our why you are also our how. We couldn’t do what we do to take care of business and strengthen the fabric of our community without your continued support.
I share all of this as a way of saying thank you. Thanks to the ones who took a chance on hiring me, thanks to Aura Lee for sticking with me through it all, and thanks to you for continuing to support the important work we get to do. I have the best job in the world telling your stories, sharing your struggles, and helping find solutions to keep the Robins Region strong well into the future. You work the real magic every day, and it is an honor to serve you.
So in this season of thanksgiving, I am thankful for everything these past six years working for business in the Robins Region has brought me – the friendships, the experiences, the milestones, and most of all, the front-row seat to being part of “what’s next” for this incredible place we call “home.” Here’s to the next six!
Now, we have the chance to shine a light on some of the remarkable individuals and businesses that are truly making an impact on our community each and every day. Please take just a moment to nominate someone for our annual Pinnacle Awards. The deadline for nominations is THIS FRIDAY so don’t delay!
