MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Over the weekend, we saw an incredible outpouring of support and willingness to help those affected by the devastating fire at Coldwater Creek Apartments.
The Chamber is partnering with Coldwater Creek, the Red Cross, and Southside to assist in the collection and distribution of Coldwater Relief. We have been overwhelmed by the love and support of the community. The Red Cross has met with all of the affected residents and has provided financial assistance for their immediate needs – lodging, toiletries, food, and clothing. The demographics for this group of residents is diverse, and we are working with the property managers and the Red Cross to get a comprehensive profile of needs.
As much as we know you want to help NOW, we encourage people to wait to bring items to the church until we have a better understanding of needs and timing. It will be a process to get the displaced residents set up with new long-term housing, so they are unable to take in a lot of items at this time due to lack of storage in their current lodging.
Your love and support can be felt across our community. Southside will be the official lead for collection and distribution, and we will update the community with a roll-out plan once that has been established. We appreciate your help in making this effort efficient, helpful, and #RobinsStrong. In the meantime, it has come to our attention that our area is lacking greatly when it comes to Red Cross volunteers. This is an incredible organization providing real-time relief to those affected by disaster. Saturday night’s tragic fire can be a reminder of how important it is to give back to your community. The Red Cross had two volunteer responders come over from Columbus to help our neighbors here in Warner Robins in the middle of the night. Help me to get our local community trained and ready to assist! Join us for a virtual open house on 1/25/21 at 7pm or 1/27/21 at 12pm to find out how you can help. There are so many opportunities!
